The Rose, Vol. "The Rose" was first recorded by Bette Midler for the soundtrack of the 1979 film McBroom's composition was one of seven songs selected by Midler from thirty song possibilities proffered by There are two mixes of the song. Midler's portrayal of The Rose… The single mix features orchestration, while the version in the film (and on its soundtrack) includes an extended introduction while doing away with the orchestration in favor of piano-and-vocals only. Midler performs all the songs on the album, with the exception of the instrumental "Camellia". In their suit, the band alleged that the agency failed to provide any payment since their debut and that it demanded a rigorous promotional schedule.
Paul A. Rothchild produced the final Janis Joplin studio album, Pearl, as well as many a Doors disc, and the late producer was the perfect guy to tackle this tribute to Joplin featuring "The Divine Miss M" as "Pearl"/"The Rose." Tupac's poems are quoted, sung or simply used as inspiration for each track on this album. The Rose cited J&Star's pledge to provide them with monthly revenue reports which never materialized, as well as the company's unilateral decision to plan a 17-city American tour spanning 32 days, which would have required a concert every other day.On March 4, 2020, J&Star Company released a secondary statement that refuted The Rose's claims and accusations against the company, saying the group was being deceptive, and broke integrity and dignity. The label stressed their intent to take counter legal actions for violation of contract, defamation of character, and more.The Rose performing in Hungary on February 25, 2018 From May 17–19, 2019, The Rose performed for the first time at KCON Japan at Makuhari Messe in Chiba. They subsequently embarked on their second world tour, We Rose You Live Tour, on August 17.
The soundtrack was produced by Paul A. Rothchild, who in fact also had worked with Joplin on what was to become her final album before her death in 1970, entitled Pearland released posthumously.
