The common is fairly remote so there are no refreshment or toilet facilities anywhere on the route. At certain times of the year temporary electric fence/gates are installed to allow cattle to graze so take care with dogs within any of these enclosures. The dogs particularly enjoyed getting extremely muddy and smelly. This route was only a 5k route but it gave us a taster of the area and how much more we could do on another occasion! The site is an important breeding area for a number of rare animals including water voles, nightjars and sand lizards. A large wildfire has been burning on heathland in Surrey amid soaring temperatures earlier in the south east of England. The parking fee is payable by card or phone (not cash) and the cost is £2.60 for 2 hours. A real favourite with dogs, with plenty of areas to run, paddle, play and explore. To start the walk come out of the car park, cross the road with care and then go straight ahead into the entrance for Chobham Common. Easy instructions. The path goes over a wetland area via a low sleeper bridge and then climbs up a few well-spaced steps. The final section of the walk follows a narrow path through thick gorse (shorts are not advised!) Definitely the first real hint of spring when the sun was shining.
