The story line is action packed, maybe a little too much going on with Dory in Hong Kong! Although the c4 pawn is not guarded, this is not a 'real' gambit, since White can always get the pawn back if he wants.
Many of the details have become quite complex over the books and still amaze me. I also love the Cassie series (which takes place in the same world at approx the same time) but one thing that can frustrate me a lot with that series is so much happens, but also NOTHING actually happens. One of the fundamental variations of 1.d4 is the Queen's Gambit.
Plus all our favourite series characters. I felt that same frustration with this Dory book. In these strange days of quarantine and isolation, books can be a mode of transport. I also love the Cassie series (which takes place in the same world at approx the same time) but one thing that can frustrate me a lot with that series is so much happens, but also NOTHING actually happens. Would definitely recommend this, but best to read in chronological order if you're new to the series (and I mean swapping between the Cassie Palmer novels as well, since they occur in the same universe and events are linked between the two series). 1. d4 d5 2. c4. I am behind on CP, having stopped (I thought temporarily) at book 8, but haven’t felt a rush to return. I felt that same frustration with this Dory book. Relationships in this book were explored further, and growth was made, of which I am very excited about.
