The Good Son is a 1993 American psychological thriller film directed by Joseph Ruben, written by English novelist Ian McEwan, and starring Elijah Wood, Macaulay Culkin, Wendy Crewson, David Morse, Daniel Hugh Kelly, and Jacqueline Brookes. The Good Son is a psychological horror film was produced in 1993 with the participation of Macaulay Culkin and Elijah Wood. A young boy stays with his aunt and uncle and befriends his cousin, a boy of the same age who shows increasing signs of violent and psychopathic behavior. A young woman fakes her own death in an attempt to escape her nightmarish marriage, but discovers it is impossible to elude her controlling husband. It's the first movie I've seen where I was actually scared of the bad character, Henry [Macaulay Culkin] and the first movie I've seen where I find myself routing for the good character, Mark [Elijah Wood]. Henry prepares to kill Susan by dropping a rock on her, but Mark tackles him and they fight while Susan pulls herself up.
When Henry plans to kill Connie, Mark spends the night in her room. Macaulay Culkin tries for a change of pace playing a schoolyard psychotic in The Good Son. During a cryogenics test, a pilot frozen in 1939 awakes in 1992 but time is running out, as his body starts to age rapidly. A father recounts a dark period of his childhood when he and his little brother lived in the suburbs. Henry then takes it, runs to a cemetery, and throws it down a well. See, normally I don't get too involved in the movies I'm watching, but with THE GOOD SON, it's impossible not to!

When Susan gets to the cliff, Henry pushes her off, but she grabs onto the edge. I saw THE GOOD SON on television a while ago and since then I have rented several times.
In the novel, Henry's mother Susan eventually discovers that Henry is unable to understand emotions like love and sorrow and that pleasure derived from selfish actions and the torment of others are the few things he truly feels.
Here he befriends with his cousin, Henry but he gradually frets when Henry shows an unusual fascination with death.
As the movie was originally scheduled to shoot at the same time as A tie-in novel was published alongside the movie's release in 1993, written by Todd Strasser.
The book also concludes differently from the movie, ending with Mark returning to Uncle Wallace's home in Maine one year later.
