Imagine my astonishment when I start reading the book and discover that my article provided the inspiration and backbone of the book, and that Laplander has followed its structure, copied every name from it (with some deliberate and mostly incorrect changes to cover his tracks) and even quotes from it verbatim without even a note in his copious references. Accordingly, I wrote to Charles Hewitt of Pen & Sword, insisting that he withdraw the book. For various reasons, I decided to concentrate on the ‘Great Escape’ book and put the ‘Wooden Horse’ MS on the back-burner.
