I only broke down in the last few days since I had quite a lot of credit at my local record store which made the price Let me also say that there has been a decidedly mixed reaction to this set online as well. That seems to be at odds with Mr. Magee's production description of "cut from masters", unless that meant after transfer to digital from original tape masters, because unfortunately, that's what it sounds like ( Someone above feels that are all paid to lie and I honestly believe it. With all respect to the old misery, that’s rubbish. "Love me do was direct from digits as the 7” sounded better than from a tape dubbed from our needle drop which was used for the Mono masters LP. I agree it should be analog. * I also had two discs that had small blogs on them that I think must have been a glue like substance. Sgt Pepper and The White Album 50th vinyl rollouts were on 100% on point IMO. A new mastering in analog is rarely done and has the potential to be truly great. Now let me preface this by saying I already own a great box set of The Beatles singles that was released in 1982 which sounds terrific. I would have placed each of the Apple singles in generic British Apple sleeves except for “Let It Be,” which had its own custom sleeve. Huh!And other people have built entire collections from reading such reports, so they don't want to hear the truth either.I read this review on the very day FEDEX is delivering the box set to me! And then they do it ADA and try to tell us it is AAA. Not keeping them in print, now that was STUPID. For example, Apple’s use of the “I Want To Hold Your Hand” from Chile means that the collection does not include the classic Capitol sleeve for the single with its very cool Dezo Hoffman photograph. In a sense, the 2019 box set The Singles Collection continues a project begun a decade earlier, when the Beatles catalog was given long overdue remasters. However, one credit in the booklet gave me pause: under "Vinyl Mastering: Sean Magee at Abbey Road Studios" was this: "Library and tape transfers: Ian Pickavance and Cary Anning".
But I play these singles relatively often now..the sound makes it well worth it. No problem for anyone. I must say though that I may have been lucky as I’ve heard others have worse issues.I must say you’d have to be a super fan to want to buy this set but then again I’m sure that’s the target audience for this set.As far as my box set, it looks great and sounds great so I’m happy. Another first class project from Apple and Universal. 4.6 out of 5.
While McCartney’s song certainly doesn’t have the venomous energy or experimental edge of Lennon’s, it has got a power of its own; as a masterclass in supremely catchy songwriting, it works perfectly.Far more dynamic and electrifying than its predecessor Love Me Do, the Everly Brothers-inspired Please Please Me saw the Beatles harness the raucous power of their live performances in the studio.
Sadly, there are other companies that do the same with their vinyl releases, hiding behind ambiguity and techno speak.I don't have any problems whatsoever with well produced, great sounding vinyl release having a digital intermediate stage. It is simply to justify a limited and expensive Holiday release. The other question begging to be asked here this is why can't Abbey Road and their engineers put out a decent sounding vinyl product of Beatles material containing a digital stage, and why are these things so expensive? I played all the discs in my set and all sounded great, with absolutely no surface noise.
