Former Atlanta police officer Garrett Rolfe sued Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms and Interim Police Chief Rodney Bryant in a county court on Tuesday. There needs to be more respect for suspect and public safety (think UPS truck shootout). If you see comments in violation of our rules, please report them. Their base will eat it up because it's confirming what they want to hear, and the legitimate concerns get minimized again. That turned into a little bit of a rant, but in short I think you can 100% support black lives matter, you can be upset that someone's life was ended when there were definitely alternative actions that could have changed the outcome, but at the same time you can recognize that someone's own choices brought about this result and not the color of their skin.Sadly BLM is gonna lose a lot of credibility over this case. This case is actually a huge win for police in general in the long run. If they're found to have done wrong, then by all means, discipline them, fire them, or charge them. They knew who he was, they could have gotten a warrant for his arrest and tracked him down some other time.An important point: This same DA justified charges against Officers last week in the tasing of two people who refused to exit their car by saying that the taser was a deadly weapon. An autopsy later found Brooks was shot twice in the back.Rolfe — who is facing 11 charges, including felony murder — was Fulton County District Attorney Paul Howard is asking a judge to revoke Rolfe’s bond after learning he took a vacation to Florida.
he ends up failing the field sobriety test, blowing above a .08 (legal limit) and cops go to place him under arrest. I'm sure people will let me know in the comments if there are. “It hurts, and I feel something should be done.”Rolfe’s bond order states that he is only allowed to leave his metro Atlanta home for medical appointments, to meet with attorneys or for job-related issues, Howard said in the motion.“Thus, [the] defendant has clearly shown that he will not abide by the conditions of bond imposed by the court,” Howard’s motion reads. The former cop’s attorney declined to comment, the newspaper reports. I mean, this should be a pretty cut and dry case. He is pulled over by the police. Floyd complied with every order the police gave him, and was still murdered extrajudicially, in a situation very similar to what Brooks was currently going through.
Brooks’ widow, Tomika Miller, also wants Rolfe back in custody, the newspaper reports.“I’m just wondering when will justice be served? They talked for half an hour before and everything was going great but they failed to announce his arrest and everything went shit from there. This thread has been locked by the moderators of r/GoldandBlackCivil, On-topic Discussion of Anarcho-Capitalism and LibertarianismLooks like you're using new Reddit on an old browser. should pick one standard and stick with it).I very much doubt whether the DA's extrajudicial statements about this - regarding another case - would be admissible evidence in this case. Rayshard Brooks stole a tazer.
Don’t take my word for it. Yes.The protests for this case are defeating the cause. No h8, but the entirety of the BLM movement is built on a strawman. I submit that Rayshard Brooks acted because he feared for his life, too. As someone who supports peaceful protests and police reform, I do believe the shooting of Brooks was justified. The video of the shooting clearly shows Brooks aiming a taser and firing it at the officer in pursuit. Add on top of that the healthy fear that all Black Americans hold for the police, and the alcohol impairing his judgement, and it's not at all surprising that Brooks thought his only chance at survival was to flee the scene. While in pursuit of Brooks, Rolfe had his own Taser in his hand. Had Brooks survived and not run from the police, it's unclear what he would even have been charged with -- it wasn't a DUI, since he wasn't operating the vehicle, and it's hard to prove he was drunk when he arrived at the Wendy's.When Officers Rolfe and Brosnan first confronted Brooks, Brooks offered to walk to his sister's house nearby.
If not even the police are allowed to use deadly force in self defense, then us peasants are fucked if we ever have to.The media really wants to make this a race issue and a police brutality issue.
